"Dither" definition
In books on the subject I often come across the word dither. I know the normal meaning as given in dictionaries. What does it convey in Photoshop. I would like to know its impact on an image. If possible an example would be very much appreciated. Rangan D P |

Re: "Dither" definition
This is a technique that was used when computers could only display 256 colours. Colour photographs would be converted to show just a few colours, but the regular pattern of dots would be distracting. It looked better if images were 'dithered' - producing a more random pattern - which made colour look more convincing. These days, we only need to think about dithering images when we're deliberately reducing the number of colours, such as in an animated GIF. |

Re: "Dither" definition
Respected Administrator, I very much appreciate your response. Now I can make some sense of the term so far as photoshop is concerned. Have been reading your book. Would work on the examples to hone in my skill. Still have a minor niggle. Photoshop takes quite some time to open. When it shows plug ins initially, it seems to stop literally for some time. Is it because of the numerous filters I have added. Any ideas to make it respond faster would be appreciated. Ra ngan D P |
