New Imac and CS4 bog down
I have a new Imac computer and CS4 and I am having problems with my wacom tablet holding on to the tools (staying engaged) after removing the tip from the tablet. I have plenty of memory (8g) but the cpu's seem to spike when using any tool. For example, when I use the brush tool for a few strokes in a row the cpu's spike to 98 to 99% for photoshop. This is when the tablet becomes unresponsive or "holds on" to the tool and won't release it. I have never had this problem with CS3. I googled "OPTIMIZE iMAC for PHOTOSHOP USE" and tried a few of the suggestions like reducing history states, unchecking open GL, increasing the memory that photoshop uses to 85 to 90% (my default was at 69%) Nothing seemed to have had any effect on the problem. I am at a point where I just want to go back to CS3. Memory doesn't seem to be the problem. I usually have about 5 to 5 1/2 gb unused. I am at a loss as to what to do. HELP! PLEASE! This is odd. I haven't come across this behaviour before. Could it be you need to update your Wacom driver? And when you say it's "holding on" to the tool, what do you mean here? |

My wacom tablet is also new. A Christmas present from my wife. And what I mean by "holding on" is that when you remove the tip from the tablet and move the stylus away the brush continues to "stroke" until your like an inch or so from the tablet. Or when you go to the layer stack it "grabs" a layer and the layer turns black (as if selected) and it drags the layer, and other odd occurrences. It's really frustrating. I've tried adjusting the tablet to a more rigid (less sensitive) setting but to no avail. It is still doing these odd things. Do you think it could be the tablet and not Photoshop? The tablet seems to work fine with all other applications. Just not with photoshop. I don't have any other drawing apps to try it with (like painter, or Illustrator). Do you have any suggestions as to what I could try and/or do? Neil _________________ "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. Re: New Imac and CS4 bog down
I think I found the problem, and it wasn't the computer or the Photoshop software. It was the Wacom tablet. I brought my old tablet home from the office and plugged it into my new computer and the problem went away. I checked the differences in the settings and changed the settings on my new tablet to the same settings on the old tablet and it worked fine. The problem seemed to be the click and double click settings on the pen. The pen was set too sensitive. Whew! _________________ "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed.
