Noise Reduction
The book doesn't seem to have covered a lot noise reduction tips. Although Camera Raw (on pages 432-433) offers a very good noise reduction tool, PS CS5 itself doesn't seem to have something similar. My questions: (1) Does PS CS5 provide anything similar to the noise reduction tool available in Camera Raw? (2) How to use Camera Raw to remove noise on a PSD file? Thanks a lot in advance. |

Re: Noise Reduction
Photoshop does offer rudimentary noise reduction - it's found in Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise. It's not very good, though, and certainly not as good as what you find in Camera Raw. Most Photoshop users opt for a third-party solution. My favourite is NeatImage, which performs automatic noise reduction using two methods - camera profiles, and a clever means that involves examining a clear area of the image, identifying the noise, then removing that noise from the whole image. |

Re: Noise Reduction
There is more to the Reduce Noise filter than meets the eye. Using it is made easier when you know that the four sliders work in pairs. I used to use NeatImage. I never used the camera profiles but the sampling of the noise before reduction worked very well. I must look into getting a new version that will work with this machine and version of PS. |
