Mind block
I need some ideas...

Although I really enjoy using photoshop I seem to have a problem that I cannot seem to shake. The problem is creativity!

I often doodle on a blank canvas then hit the close button without saving. I just don't don't seem to get any exciting ideas. I tend to buy photoshop magazines and see other peoples work and it blows my mind. I keep saying... wish I had thought of that....but why cant I - will I ever?

I tend to use photoshop mainly to help enhance my photography but when I am wanting to use photoshop for specific art purposes I am stumped.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Stewart,

Sounds like a trip to the Friday Challenge section will get you up and running. Have a look at some of the past Challenges and see how others handle the creativity. You won't find too many identical solutions.

Try some montages; park a flying saucer in front of a Tesco's supermarket; replace a boring sky with a thunderstorm; turn day into night with a photograph of your house - make sure you turn the lights on.

Things will just start to happen and you will wonder why you ever had a problem with creativity.

Re: Mind block
Thanks a lot GKB - I am certainly going to have a go at the Friday challenge - bit late for this one so I shall have a crack at the next one.

I need to start thinking outside of the box because at the moment I seem to be trapped in it.

Love your signature - made me laugh!

While you're waiting why not pick a Challenge, say, 'The Model Village' from a couple of weeks ago and have a go at doing something with it?

Re: Mind block
I took you up on your advice and spent the last few hours playing around and things did start to happen.

I just went with it, my mind did started to think of things and the picture started to develop. Not entirly sure where I was going with it but I suppose that is half the magic as it leaves the viewer to make their own mind up.

It would be good to know what you think?

Re: Mind block
I like the feel of this image - there's some real intrigue here. A few comments:

1. The plastic bag works well, but for extra realism smooth out those hard corners at the bottom.

2. The coffee mug is good - I like the bubbles - but the back of the handle is too pointed. Is it also at slightly the wrong angle? Looks to me as if that handle would snap off in use.

3. The photo is the real problem here. All that warping and perspective are at odds with the directly top-down view of the rest of the scene.

Good detailing, though - those stains from the coffee cup are a nice addition.

Re: Mind block
Thanks for the comments Steve I shall take them onboard when creating my next montage. Its these small details that make the picture - and its realism that counts!
