Amended washing shadow - Friday Challenge
Not sure where to put this post. I adjusted the shadow on the washing in the Firday Challenge image - as suggested by Steve. I just hope I have got it at the correct angle for the lighting.

I do find it incredibly difficult to actually see these sort of errors. Sometimes I feel that things aren't quite right but often I just don't notice. Hopefully I will eventually start to learn but I reckon it could be a long process. At least I have started...

Hi Angela

The shadows look pretty good to me. The clothes are not solid, so the cast won't be as dark as those cast by the lintels and I think you have pitched this about right. If I had a pound for every image I'd submitted where something wasn't quite right, I'd be a rich man and I think others are in the same boat, so rest assured you're not alone. Great work.

Nick

Ditto, Nick. Angela - I suspect that pigeon is up to creating some mayhem to that laundry!!!

Much better!

For added realism though: that long sheet overhangs the lintel of the window below. Since this is forward of the window, the shadow needs to be closer to the sheet at this point.

A very minor issue, but it's these details that contribute to the realism of the whole picture.

Just to clarify, Steve, do you mean that the shadow over the lintel should be slightly distorted at the point of the ridges? Otherwise I'm not sure I understand.

It's a very minor point, and in my example below it's going to look like a game of Spot the Difference.

What I mean is that since the lintel projects forward from the building, the shadow would not be able to fall so far from the sheet. It would therefore be indented slightly.

Compare my version (below) with the original (above):

I am glad you asked that, Deborah, as I was about to!

I see what you mean, Steve, but I fear it might be in the ultra advanced section. I'll settle for getting the shadows from the right direction - though I will bear this info in mind for the future. Thanks
