Perspective
Steve, in your comments on my Friday Challenge you showed where the perspective line should be drawn. Could you explain (preferably in words of one syllable) how you know that the line should be drawn in that position? I was looking for something to guide me but just didn't know what to use as my baseline. thanks Angela _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Perspective
Well, the harpist is sitting down, as is the guitarist, so their heads should be roughly on the same level. To find that level, we draw a line at the top of the harpist's head. The next question is the angle of that line. If we assume that the harpist and the guitarist are roughly the same distance from the wall with the window on (and that's a reasonable assumption), then we need to draw the line parallel to that wall. So, at what angle? We can get our cue from the window itself. Look at the horizontal bars between the panes of glass: this gives us an indication of the angle of lines parallel to the ground, along that wall. So when setting the angle for our new line, we simply set it between those horizontals on the window. All we have to do now is to raise the guitarist so his head meets that line. Here's the graphic again, to save you going back and forth: ![]() We don't need to stick him exactly on that line, since he maybe physically taller or shorter than the harpist, but it gives us a good indication of roughly where he should appear in the scene. |

Re: Perspective
Thanks, Steve. It all sounds so straightforward when you explain it! _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |
