Saving a crop in an oval shape
Hi, I’m trying crop and save part of a photograph in an oval shape with a feathered edge.
I selected the part I wanted then inverted and erased the outside of the oval. But when I save it the part I erased turns white and it saves as a rectangle rather than an oval.

Can someone tell me where I’m going wrong? Also is it possible to create a new blank file in an oval shape?

Thanks
Jessie

Hi Jessie,
It sounds as though you are working on a background layer. Just double click the layer to make it an editable layer and save your project as a psd file and it should all work ok.

As for your second question the answer is that Photoshop will only open rectangular files.

Thanks for the reply Gordon, I did change the background layer to an editable one but I want to save it as a jpeg rather than a psd file.

JPEGs don't save with transparency, try a png

Thanks for the reply Dooley. When I save as png I still get the circular image on a black rectangular background. What I’m trying to achieve is a circular image without any background.

Re: Saving a crop in an oval shape
OK, load your image into photoshop, unlock the layer, select the part you want to delete, delete it then save as a .png.
You should end up with this :-
