How to create shading for a ball using burn/light tool
It's hard for me to create a shading on a ball that looks real. Because I can't control the gradually changing lighting. Is there a way to make this better ![]() |

Doesn't look too bad to me Jack, just keep practising/experimenting with the dodge and burn until you get it right I guess. I had a go using the Radial Gradient tool instead (black to white) It gives a smoother transition for the light. Here's a quick attempt using the radial gradient, my shadows are a bit off but it might help.. ![]() _________________ Quote of the day.. "Photoshop isn't really meant to be used for drawing".. |

thanks artwel. gradient tool is a fine alternative. Someties I think burn/dodge tool is more flexible. |

The advantage of using Dodge and Burn - my preferred tools for this sort of job - is that a gradient doesn’t really get the subtlety. For instance, Artwel, remember that the ball will pick up reflected light from the surface it's lying on, as well as from above: ![]() |
