Putting the pen into practice pg 24
On the video tutorial you say to put a translucent layer on top. How do you do that? Also the line is not as black as the one on the book so there's not much of a contrast between the mug and the line. Is there a way of making the pen line darker?

All I did on the video was to make a new layer, filled it with white, and then lowered the opacity so you could see the mug through it. The purpose was to make the mug paler, so that the pen line would appear darker and more contrasted on top of it.

I have another problem. When I press enter so that marching ants appear, I lose the whole selection. Can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Hello Melissa,
Are you holding down; Command on a Mac or Control on a PC, before hitting the Enter key. If you aren't it will delete the selection.

Hi Deborah. Thanks. Yes I realised I hadn't held down the Command key not long after my post but couldn't work out how to delete it!

Delete Path: click on an empty place in the Path palet.

No, I think Melissa meant she couldn't work out how to delete her post!

No matter, glad it's sorted out now.
