The Lasso and the Magic Wand
I bought the book last week! I am on page 11 and I have a problem with point 5. I can manage successfully up to point 4 but then the instruction in point 5 seems to assume previous knowledge. "This is easily fixed by holding SHIFT as we add those areas with the Lasso tool." How do I add the white shirts and the white paper? Do I have to add them after inverting the selection in point 4? And if yes how? After I invert the selection the bodies are chosen, except the shirts and the paper. Thanks for your help. Regards CJF |

The previous spread explains how holding modifier keys causes interaction between new and old selections: watch the movie, which may make it clearer. After you've made the selection in step 2, I assume you've managed to hold the Shift key and add the area between the legs (step 3) and then inverse the selection (step 4). Now, switch to the Lasso tool. If you hold the Shift key before you start to drag with it, then the area you select will be added to your selection. Hold Shift, and keep it held as you trace around the shirts. This should work. If you're still having problems, can you post a screen shot of your Photoshop window with the Lasso tool active? You may have an odd setting that's causing problems. |
