Converting an RGB image to cmyk for printing
Hi everyone - it's been a while! I've created a book cover in RGB which now needs converting to cmyk to be sent off to print. Can anyone recommend a process - there seems to be several different ways of doing it. In the meantime I will be digging out my trusty HTCIP bible. Chris |

The simplest way is just to convert it to CMYK using Image > Mode. But that's unlikely to get you good results. CMYK conversion can be a tricky process. You need to find out what sort of paper it will be printed on (glossy? matte? blade coated?), what process will be used (web? sheet fed? digital print?) and, if you can, what type of ink will be used. Are you able to ask the printers for their recommendation? They should be able to provide you with a standard settings file. |

Thanks Steve. Don't have that info, so what I've done is used gamut warning and made adjustments to the warning areas. I then converted to CMYK and sent as Photoshop PDF - the format the client asked for. I'll wait and see what their reply is! Chris |

Hi Chris, I have successfully used PDFCreator when sending something off to the printer. By changing the settings for the output format you can choose between RGB and CMYK, both separated and un-separeted (I've only used the latter, though).
