Controlling Selection Area
After making a selection of the hubcap, is their a way to control the inner elliptical circles to get them precisely where you want to cut out for the rim and add the bezel?

Re: Controlling Selection Area
Yes, there is. If you hold the Spacebar down, you can move the selection around; release the Spacebar to continue to shape your selection.

If you watch the tutorial movie for this page it might become clearer.

Re: Controlling Selection Area
I'm on a laptop using the alt key and mouse button with mouse pad. I watched the video, but am still having a problem trying to use the space bar. After I've drawn my circle around the hubcap and then hold the alt key to draw the second circle-do I release the alt key before pressing the space bar, or continue to hold the alt key while pressing the space bar? I'm not sure what I should be doing at the time I press the space bar. Would I have better control if I used a mouse? If so, what order should I be using?

Re: Controlling Selection Area
Hold the Spacebar while you're still drawing a selection, ie before you release the mouse button.

You hold the alt key before you draw the second circle in order to tell Photoshop that you want to subtract that area from the first. Once you've started drawing, you can release it - and then, if you want, hold it again to draw from the middle out.

You may find watching the movie for this section helps.

You'd certainly have much better control with a mouse, yes. But if you really want to work well, you should buy a Wacom tablet. You're always going to struggle with the trackpad on a laptop.

Thanks Steve. That was the advice I was looking for. I watched the movie, but your advice made it clear.
