Photoshop CC / Refine Edge Dialog / Hard Text
I'm in the "Refine Edge: going further" section and I'm completely baffled by screen shots of the "Refine Edge dialog" and "Refine Edge panel" (are these one and the same or something different?) Ctrl-Alt-R brings up the dialog as shown in the previous "Refine Edge: fuzzy logic" section and what I've attached here. (I'm using the Kindle version so no page numbers, sorry) What am I doing wrong and how do I get the dialog as displayed in the "going further" section (with the "hard text" example)? Thanks much for your help! EDITED to add: This is what is shown in the book: http://media.smashingmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/6_refine-edge.jpg |

Which edition of the book are you working from? It could just be that it shows an earlier version of Refine Edge. But it really makes no difference, since you have all the controls you need there anyway. Increase the Feather amount and the Contrast, and you'll get the result in the book. Do let me know if you still have problems with this. |

Re: Photoshop CC / Refine Edge Dialog / Hard Text
First, thanks for the response and my apologies for the late follow up -- I was away for the holidays. I'm using the Kindle version of How to Cheat in Photoshop CC. It's confusing in the book because the directions state for step #4: "Click the final icon at the bottom of the Refine Edge panel to view the selection as an Alpha Channel." There's no mention of what this "final icon" is so that I could easily figure out the corresponding element (or action to take) on the newer panel... Is it one of the View Modes in the dropdown at the top of the newer panel and if so, which one? And if not, what is the corresponding step to take at this point? Thanks again! |

Hi, it is in the View dropdown, just pick the Black and White option (it isn't called Alpha). The Refine Edge dialogue box shown in the book/Kindle was from CS3. It has confused a few people. |
