Missing images on second edition disc
Working my way through your highly interesting and valuable book, I discovered that the Prince Charles images on pg. 134-135, and the "Bob the Builder" image on pg. 136-137 were missing! Alas, I was hoping to complete these workshops. Any idea where the images are? Are they on another part of the disc? Thanks for your help. _________________ Dinah Davis |

Re: Missing images on second edition disc
Sadly they aren't there at all. I was only able to include images on the CD that I could get clearance for - royalty-free images, that is, where the rights are owned by the publisher and they're all model released. Personalities, such as Charles and Bob the Builder, are licensed in a very different way, so I wasn't able to get permission to include them. The CD icon in the corner of each tutorial indicates which images are on the CD for you to try. Sorry! But welcome to the forum anyway. Steve |

Actually on this subject, i was going to ask you - you include many illustrations you have made for the national press, yet I was led to believe by a friend who works in magazines that many images are in effect "bought" by the newspaper commissioning you, and hence not "yours" anymore, to use in say a book. Did you have to ask the Art Editors if you could use them for the book, or do you still retain copyright over them anyway? Its a strange legal situation I spose. |

Re: Missing images on second edition disc
Some newspapers syndicate work that appears in them, which means I'll suddenly get a small cheque in the post for doing nothing at all, which is gratifying. But what I'm really granting them is known as FBSR - First Brisith Serial Rights, which means they get to publish the pic first and then after that I can do what I want with it - I retain the copyright. That's pretty standard procedure for illustrators, although not (for some reason) for journalists: every word they write tends to belong to the publication they write for. So don't worry, when you produce your best-selling masterpiece you can flog it to every paper in the country and it will still be yours! |

Thanks for answering that, it was baffling me. What do you mean 'when' I make a masterpiece? Theyre all masterpieces - especially my Michael J*ckson head in the Friday challenge!! lol ![]() |

Oooh, the copyright laws and intellectual rights and so on are so naughty, I could pinch them! _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Talking of images, I happened to be perusing Total Digital Photography magazine in Tesco earlier (life in the fast lane eh?), turned a page and saw a verrrrry familiar looking table lamp.... ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |
