eyedropper/color picker
PS 9.0.2, Mac.

With the eyedropper tool, you can click on an open image and drag anywhere on the desktop, let go and it selects the color.

This works fine for me if in preferences, Other Cursors, are checked as Standard.
If they are checked as Precise, the color selected is wrong.

For example a white color results in gray when I let go.
Blue ends up green. There doesn't seem to be a pattern, it's just wrong.

Both Precise and Standard work if I just click on the open image.

????
Thanks

Yup, I have the same problem, it's annoying.

Re: eyedropper/color picker
Have you checked that your colour picker settings are not set to 3x3 average? A great option for photographic work, but I can imagine a pain in the backside when working on graphics etc.

BB

PS - Found out the other day that CapsLock toggles the precise / standard cursors on and off. (I still struggle to remember what Alt / Shift / Ctrl, or combinations of, do with the different tools!)

Re: eyedropper/color picker
Nice to hear I am not alone with this.

The point sample does not make a difference.
The capslock thing is a good tip.
It seems to only work when prefs are set to Standard.
But it is a good enough work around.

No, this is a completely different issue. The colours are never right, even if you sampled the middle of a solid green circle, it would come out blue.

Re: eyedropper/color picker
Yes, one which will no doubt be present in CS3 and beyond

I assume it is Mac only. Well, they can't be completely perfect, after all

Re: eyedropper/color picker
I've just tried it on my mac ibookG4 if that makes any difference and it was fine, with standard and precise, dragging or not.
As a matter of interest (yawn) my proof setup is on working CMYK, is this wrong? Only because of losing the pink today when I posted the FC, or is that just from compression?

Re: eyedropper/color picker
So you are saying:
You set PS prefs on, Displays and Cursors>Other Cursors>Precise.
Open on image in PS.
Select the eyedropper tool.
Click on the image, hold and drag to the desktop then release.

You get an accurate foreground color?

Yes, I've been messing around with this for hours and no problem. I don't know enough about it but if you have gone to replace colour, upped the fuzziness, saved it and loaded it, would this do it? or do you have to load that every time? Please excuse my ignorance on this!

I'm using CS2 with MAC 10.3.9 and don't seem to have a problem with this

Re: eyedropper/color picker
It must be a Tiger issue. I also have problems with disappearing cursors when using the lasso and shape tools.

Re: eyedropper/color picker
Tiger is 10.4 which is what I've got. There was a problem with CS2, which Apple fixed with the 10.7 issue. OS10.4 was reading a legal file of CS2 as illegal. Maybe that is the problem?

Re: eyedropper/color picker
The illegal name bug is fixed by deleting the "Legal.localized" folder in Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2.

The disapearing cursor thing is a known bug.
Especially with a selection tool in add to selection mode.

Tap the option key to make it appear.
