Reflection highlight removal
I take a lot of product photography and I am sometimes unable to control the location of the shots, therefore I am often faced with having to remove reflections. I have tried many different tools, and have succeeded but not without a lot of time consuming touch up work. I just know there has to be an easier way. Any advice would be appreciated! Sample attached. By the way...love the book! ![]() |

Re: Reflection highlight removal
Hi Michael, The only way that I can think of at the moment to do this would be to make selections of the side panels, sample a couple of representative colours with the eyedropper and then, on a new layer, fill it with a gradient of those colours. You might want to add a bit of Gaussian noise and blur it slightly. Use a mask to bring out the 'American Trailer' logo and the door frames. For the rivets I would just use some appropriately spaced dots with the paintbrush. The dimpled chrome is going to be a lot trickier than the metallic grey painted sides but I would probably try to create an entirely new panel from a series of copies of a reflection free area all joined together then add a little doging and burning for the shading. It was difficult trying to avoid repeat patterns on this low res image but it would be much easier on a hi res image. It's more Illustration than photograph and I have not worked the image very much but in the absense of any other ideas so far I hope this helps a little. Gordon

Hey thanks Gordon! Looks great and I bet it was difficult to do on such a low res image. I'll give your technique a try! |
