Natural selection
I know I must have something set differently in my Photoshop, but on page 6 and using the quickmask I can't get the mask to show.
When I try I get a very slight graying effect but it's not the red effect even though it set to be red.

Re: Natural selection
Have you perhaps set the opacity of the overlay to a very low figure? 50% is standard. If you have it much less than this, you may well get the gray effect.

Re: Natural selection
Thanks for a great book....I'm learning PS and this is awesome!

I'm posting this here since it is closely related to the same issue.

The final image after the background is removed has faded areas in the darker parts of the image. What causes this? I did the page 8-9 exercise and parts of the hair and right side is faded grayish.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Re: Natural selection
I will answer my own question

Not sure how I did this, but I finally noticed when I selected quicksmask the foreground changed from black to gray which created a transparent copy of the selection. Changing back to black was of course the solution

Don't quite follow that, Tom - but I'm glad you seem to have solved the problem!

U
Unintentionally, I changed foreground color to gray before I made my quickmask selection. Then when I left quickmask and save the selection to a layer this selection was semi transparent. I did not notice that I had changed my foreground color from black to gray until later.
So much to keep track on in PS. I'm a long time Xara user and the combination of PS and Xara has opened new exiting avenues for me. Thanks again for a great book!

Re: Natural selection
Steve what happened was he must have entered quickmask at a previous time and had set it on accident to a light grey when the quickmask mode is on a light grey the quikmask is basically brushing transparent. so turning it back to black fixed it.

Yup, that's what I did. Thanks!
