QuickMask Page 9 Step 9 - Brushes
In Step 9 it says to change to a soft edge larger brush. What's an example of one? I get 3 brush choices in the list
Airbrush Soft Round 50% Flow
Paintbrush Oval 45 pixels...
Transparent Red Spray Paint

So I assumed the Airbrush would work but after painting the shadows with it and leaving Quickmask mode, the selected shadows were still dark, no change. I tried different hardness levels but none seem to lighten the shadows.

Am I missing something?

When you select Brush tool there will be an icon at top that says brush.. Click on drop down menu and there should be a list of many sizes and you can change the hardness.

Ok thanks. I do see that. But for actual brushes, there are only those 3 types to choose from in my Photoshop version which is CS2. I thought there should be more in the list.

I jumped from PS 7 to CS3 but I think they are all the same. Not sure where you are getting those choices. If I have the brush icon selected use the 2nd icon on top labeled brushes I get 30+ sizes.

If you click on the little arrow in upper right corner of brushes drop down box you can choose how brushes are displayed - small thumbnails, text, etc.

Jenn,

Photoshop ships with quite an assortment of brushes, although quite a few of the default ones are just a variation of the size and hardness settings.

If you open the brushes pallet, (Select Window from the menu and select brushes) you should see something like in this picture. You should be able to view all of the brushes that you have currently loaded.

If you click the little button icon in the corner, you will get a menu, and from there you can load the additional brushes that ship with Photoshop.

Wow thanks very much! Now I see them all. I just didn't have Brushes checked under the Window menu. Impressive.
