Really dumb question.....
this maybe the first of many??

Page 28-29 for Elements 6, is about Styles Step 2 states tp change the default settings you double click the star icon to the right of the layer thumbnail.

I looked all over for this star icon....where is it hiding??????

You're right, of course. At the time of writing a lot of the icons were still the same as they were in version 5. This must have been one they changed later on. You should now look for the fx symbol at the end of the layer's entry in the palette.

You have also managed to find your way to the How to Cheat in Photoshop forum: both myself and Steve are around but it's more focused on Steve's Photoshop books and the other members may not be able to assist you with the specifics in the book; which is part of the ethos of the forums. Matthew,

Are you referring to How to Cheat in Photoshop or How to Cheat in Elements? The former lists both and the latter is PC only, there are no Mac shortcuts listed (in the current edition, at least).
