Moving a selection
I am trying to get started on Steve Caplins book, and selection is easy enough, but it says I must press alt and then move the selection. In the standard mode, if I make a selection, and holding alt pressed down, I click and drag. Then NOTHING moves excepting the outline of the selection. Whereas I want to move the selected portion of the image across the image. Like I want to move an apple from the left to the right of a plate. Will anyone help me to understand this? |

Re: Moving a selection
Mohini, If you have one of the selection tools (marquee, lasso etc) active when moving a selection, then just the selected area will move. To move the content, either switch to the Move tool (shortcut: V) or hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Win) to access it temporarily. Is your apple on a separate layer? If so, no selection is necessary - just use the Move tool and move the layer. Steve |

Re: Moving a selection
When you have made the selection, you have to change to the move tool, which is the double arrow to the right of the selection tool. Otherwise, you're moving just the selection and not the item you selected. I learned this the hard way when what you described kept happening to me! Hope this helps. |
