PS CS2 and RAW images
Why I am having hard time processing my RAW images in PS CS2

I can not even open my RAW images. I am using Canon Rebel XSi

Do I need to install a plug in for this Camera?

Check out this link of last month. It should give you some answers.
It is on next page under Camera Raw.

Re: PS CS2 and RAW images
Hi Emad,

Unfortunately camera manufacturers, for some reason best known to themselves, update their RAW programming in a manner which is not useable in versions of Photoshop produced before the camera came on the market. Adobe will then only update the plug-in for the latest version of Photoshop and they will not support any earlier versions.

I have had this happen to me twice now. Fortunately the first time it happened I could update CS2 when I bought my Nikon D200. When I bought my Nikon D700 there was/is no plug-in available for CS2. Fortunately I use Lightroom 2 and Apple Aperture so I can get a Camera RAW plug-in for those. Otherwise I would have to splash out even more money for CS3/4 or pay extra for Nikon's own NX2 software which should be supplied with the camera in the first place!

If anyone from Nikon is reading this - NX2 should be supplied with your cameras. It is fraudulent of you to supply something and then demand more money for the software that makes it work.

If anyone from Adobe is reading this - you would earn lots of 'brownie-points' from your customers if you provided this kind of support. It cannot be that expensive to write such a simple programme and your customers would be a heck of a lot happier.

Basically it comes down to Adobe, Nikon, Canon et al ripping us off by forcing us to pay for something that ought to have been included in the price in the first place.

Sorry about my little rant.

Gordon

Re: PS CS2 and RAW images
A workaround is to convert the camera RAW to DNG format and that avoids the problem of incompatible formats. That option is available at time of download in Bridge.
