Disappearing layers
The layers in my PSD file of this weeks challenge have disappeared. I opened the file to make an adjustment (The wheelbarrow appears to be floating) and Poof; all gone. No doubt my own fault, but what I may have done I cannot imagine. Has anyone else experienced this, and can the layers be redeemed. I don’t fancy going back to square one. |

Re: Disappearing layers
Hi James I am looking to seeing your animation, but I cannot view on the machine I have at work. Is there any chance that you may have flattened the file when closing previously? I seem to recall the history disappears when the file is closed, so cannot see a way of getting the layers back. Hope you can find a solution. Nick |

Re: Disappearing layers
James, There are really only two possibilities. Either you inadvertently flattened the image before you last saved it (a difficult thing to do accidentally) or the version you've just opened is the GIF file and not the original PSD. If you were using a Mac, of course, you could just pull up an earlier version of the file using Time Machine.... Hope you manage to get this sorted out. If it's any consolation, (a) your animation looks great already, and (b) it's always much easier to rebuild the document second time around. Best of luck Steve |

Re: Disappearing layers
Thank you, Nick and Steve for your prompt replies, seems I must have been a little careless. A rebuild is in the offing. Thank's again. |

Re: Disappearing layers
I do it all the time. I flatten, go to save as, then then forget to change from psd to Jpg, a real nuisance, must have something to do with age. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Disappearing layers
Simple-pimple: I am enjoying all 21 frames and layers of your latest entry in Photoshop CS4, so all is not lost James.
Here's how to do it: 1. click on your gif Photobucket link to get your entry animated; 2. click Copy on the animated image, and then click Paste on your desktop; 3. open Photoshop; 4. from the menu select File and scroll down to Import, and select Video frames to Layers; 5. next type in church, and "whammo" there's your gif file listed; 6. select the listed gif file and click Okay and behold... PS I'm surprised the proprietor did not know this

Keep on chipping away there Michael, in this thread and the other one. But I don't think you deserve the dignity of a response. |

Re: Disappearing layers
The problem Michael is that James does not any longer have the layered PSD file. What you suggested only loads the final animated GIF into PS. Each frame may be on a layer, but each layer is a flattened frame. He can not continue to modify his original from this "PS I'm surprised the proprietor did not know this " because it's not the answer, or if it WAS the answer it's the answer to the wrong question. |
