Natural Selection, pp 4-5 of How to Cheat in PS CS4
1) I cannot get any of the exercises to function using the image of the tire. I can follow along using my own images, but every time I try to use the tire, when I attempt to move the highlighted areas off to a blank section, the marching ants move, but none of the underlying images come with them. 2) Is there a way to nudge the marching ants after the selection has been made? Sometimes, I cannot hit the precise area, especially with the elliptical marquee tool. |

To move a selected area, you need to switch to the Move tool (V) or hold the Ctrl key to access it temporarily. Otherwise, if you have one of the Selection tools active (the Marquee, Lasso etc) you'll only be moving the selection area. To nudge the marching ants, use a Selection tool as described above. But it's a lot easier if you press the Spacebar as you're making the elliptical selection: this will allow you to move it around as you're drawing it. When you release the Spacebar, you can continue to shape the selection. Hope this helps! |

Thank you very much for the quick response. I have tried what you suggest in your comments, but nothing works if I am using the tire image. If I use an image of my own, everything is OK. |

Have you perhaps created a new blank layer above the tire? If so, then you're trying to move an empty space... |
