Rather than up rate to a larger screen, I’ve opted for a two monitor system which I find to my liking, unfortunately photoshop is not too happy with the arrangement and is refusing to play ball. (Doesn’t open) Indications were to faulty graphics cards, and those have been replaced with new up rated versions. The problem remains, any suggestions leading to a remedy would be appreciated |

Gday James (Almost posted my opinion in your other post about the dual system) I could understand the use of two monitors back in the day before widescreens were the norm, but now in the age of large widescreens I wouldnt bother with the hassle of setting up two monitors. Ofcourse this by no means is of any help to your problem and im sure theres legions of users out there who think its the only way to go! Miss your FC's James |

It depends on what hardware/os you are using. Do you have a mac? a PC? What version of OS X or Windows are you using? What graphics card are you using? Are both monitors the same? i.e. both DVI or both analogue or one of each? Is it just photoshop that's not working? Can you see anything at all on the other monitor? Have you tried swapping the monitors over? I can't see why any problem would be specific to Photoshop. It's just your desktop that is extended. I don't think Photoshop would even know you have two monitors. |

Hello Brendan, Not having had the use of a wide screen monitor, I am not in a position to dispute your point of view which may well be quite valid. However, having set up a duel monitor system at some expense, I’m prepared to give it a fair trial. I like it, but must admit to being a bit miffed with my present predicament. Cheers |

I updated my graphics card 18 months ago to cope with a 22" monitor which is excellent but could still use 2. Can you tell us what you have done so far with your existing or other system to try and enable two monitors? |

Hi, Paul, Am currently using a PC hosting windows XP. The graphics card is a Radeon HD4650 ( new ) The monitors are a Dell 1707FPt and a Benq FP731 both 17” and both analogue. I currently have Word on one, and the forum on the other, so it does work, and yes I have tried swapping them around. Photoshop won’t know of the arrangement, it hasn’t been around to take a peek. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. |

So when you say it does not open can not really figure that out if other programs open. Do you have your monitors set up properly in the windows Control Panel? This window sets the resolution of screens, location, and if one or 2 screens are active, and which one is the "main" monitor. What version of Photoshop are you using? |

On my computer I have one DVI socket, and one Analog socket, so they couldn't run off two of the same kind of sockets: it can only be one Dvi and one analog: are you shoving an analog cable into a digital (Dvi) socket? Sorry I can't be of any more help Michael |

| james Surreal Spoofer Posts: 1194 Reply | Re: One computer, two monitors. cy98; - Thank you for your comments, I currently have windows XP with photoshop CS4. The dual monitor system works well enough, with the exception of photoshop. Micheal, The graphics card has two outlet sockets both analogue, and the monitors also are analogue. As I have stated the system works except where I really require it. My broadband connection is still playing up (very erratic) hence the delayed reply; I have to jump in whenever it comes on, which isn't very often. My Regards to you both. James |

They are different types of screens, but apart from not getting the colours exactly matching I haven't had any problems. I have photoshop main window on my big screen, and all the pallets on the other. As I'm away from my main computer at the moment I can't tell you more about my setup now, but if you still have problems in a weeks time, drop me a note. I'm using windows XP. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
