Hairy caveman
My 'ole mum used to say if I ate my green vegetables it would put hairs on my chest. So how does one put hairs on a caveman? Ted |

Re: Hairy caveman
Hi Ted When we did the challenge, I decided to use real hair, so I Googled images of hairy legs. No I'm not weird - honest! The part to be used was selected and copied into the cavemen image and then resized and rotated to give the correct direction. The leg was then clipped to the model and desaturated. The blend was set to soft light, but you could also use hard light or overlay depending on how the leg image was shot. I then used a hide all layer mask and painted with white at around 30% to bring in the detail. This step was repeated a number of times until all the parts of the model were covered. In each case I duplicated the layer and changed the blend to multiply and played around with the opacity until it looked right. For the chest area I used a hairy chest image - oh heavens I'm digging myself into a hole with this! Because the hair is clipped to the model, it will only appear over the model, so I used Steve's curly hair brush technique in the book, the one to make the beard and on a new layer painted some hair around the model. There must be loads of ways to do this, but it seemed to look pretty realistic, but perhaps not enough for the British climate as Steve mentioned. Nick |

Hi Nick. Sorry for the delay in acknowledging your reply. Thanks for the explanation. I'll try it next time Steve goes prehistoric. Sorry to have missed everyone in Foyles last week. I had reserved a place but suddenly found myself by the sea for the week. Ted |
