Re: RAW file
Chris, You can open them in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) which is part of PS CS* package. As per discussions before, depending on your version of PS CS, ACR might not support your latest camera's RAW (Canon CR2), but there are ways around it. After ACR you open in PS and then do all you want in 16 bit mode etc ... Not sure if this on the right track? Trevor |

Re: RAW file
My earlier comments were in this thread i.e. using DNG and getting updates for latest supported camera RAW files. http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=02&topic_id=1268592401

Re: RAW file
Chris, Also another option: I am assuming you have Canon, it comes with package of "free"software for PC. One part is Digital Photo Professional. You can open this program and use it to open the CR2 file and then save as TIFF (and adjust before as you might want). The TIFF can then be opened in PS directly. I do not follow that work flow very often, or recently so not sure how effective it is in comparison vs Bridge -> ACR -> PS. Trevor |

Re: RAW file
Hi Chris, It partly depends on which version of Photoshop you are using. If you are using a fairly recently marketed camera and you are using, say, CS2 then the chances are that you may not be able to open the file. Get on to the Adobe website to find the latest Camera RAW plug in and see if it supports your Canon with your version of Photoshop. I ran into this problem when I bought my Nikon D700 and found that the Camera RAW plug-in would not work with CS2. Fortunately I could use Aperture to open the files but Adobe took some time to provide Apple with the required codes to create the update. Re: RAW file
Hi Chris, Canon should have supplied you with software to open the files. I realise that this doesn't help with opening them in Photoshop but you should be able to get them open this way then save them as a tif to open in Photoshop. If you don't have the software check the Canon website where you should be able to download it free of charge.........unlike Nikon! _________________ Why isn't 'phonetic' spelled the way it sounds? |

Re: RAW file
Hi Chris, Just to clairify .. as per my earlier comments and aligned with Gordon's I think, 1) did you try the CR2 -> DNG Adobe Digital Negative Converter, see earlier link? 2) Also Canon's Digital Photo Professional software should be able to give you a TIFF from CR2 as stated before. I have a Canon with the Digital Photo Professional software and also have Adobe Digital Negative Converter. These have worked firne me when my version of PS ACR did not support latest Canon RAW camera file I had before getting CS4. If you want me try to open/access your CR2 I may be able to help, or confirm same problem let me know. Trevor |

Re: RAW file
I checked latest version of DPP, its 3.8, 2010 and can be downloaded free. It will still convert and save to 16 bit TIFF (large!!), which open in PS fine |
