Perspective tut in 100% PS
OK - another newbie to masks - CS4 p.15 of 100% Photoshop - created a ring after deleting center with Quick Mask. Trying to build up the ring to a donut with Alt-arrowUp. After exiting QuickMask with ring alone in layer with transparent bkg - (CTL)-A selects a large square of the whole layer instead of just the ring. If I use wand to select the ring, (ALT) UpArrow moves the outline of the ring instead of building it all up. Doing something basic wrong here... |

OK - I found a workaround but I still don't understand the (Ctl)-A in the original directions. I did something wrong there.. 1. I selected with ring with the wand tool 2. (Alt)-UpArrow a few times to the desired height 3. (Alt)-Backspace to fill - I found this important 4. (Ctl)-J to save of the top surface in a new layer.. |

Hi You are not doing anything wrong. I created the ring on a new layer. To extrude the ring you need to have the move tool selected. As soon as you press ALT, the whole canvas selection, created by CTRL A, changes and is restricted around the object. My preferred approach would be to CTRL click on the layer thumbnail, which will load the pixels as a selection. This would be more accurate than the wand if there was a variation of colour within the object to be moved. Nick |
