KPI Collection configuration with CS-5
I own the Corel KPT Collection which I purchased some years ago. It has served me will - in conjuction with Photoshop 7 through CS-4 - in past years. However, with CS-5 - even though it is shown under Filters>KPT Collection - when one of the filter effects is clicked on a dialog window opens and states that it cannot complete the request because the file could not be found. (???) I contacted Adobe tech support. They informed me that they could be of no assistance because the product wasn't theirs and that they didn't recommend 3rd party plug ins. (???) I would have to contact Corel. I did so and was informed by their tech support that they neither carry nor support the KPT Collection anymore and that there are no patches or fixes. So ... now I am turning to anyone out there who might know of any way I could successfully configure KPT with CS-5. I tried an un-install from the CS-5 Plug Ins file, then re-installed it. Still no success. It still can't find the effects files even though they are shown in the KPT drop-down. Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

I know it's not quite the same, but does it work if you open CS5 in 32 bit mode. I have a couple of Plug ins that only work that way.

Deborah's right - if you're using a Mac, then opening Photoshop in 32-bit mode may well be the answer.

It could be, of course, that the plug-in suite is simply too old. This often happens. I keep back versions of Photoshop just so I can use some of these legacy plug-ins!

No, I'm on a Dell (Dimension 8200) PC and am running Windows XP - with Service Pack 3. Haven't tried opening in 32-bit mode. Apologies for not mentioning this in my last post.

Steve: Are you running your back versions of PS on the same computer with the newest one (CS-5) - or the back versions on a different computer? I believe you told me some time ago that you use Mac only. About three years ago, I tried installing an older version of PS (PS-v.7) with CS-3 so I could use the older Image Ready feature. (I believe it was CS-3 - or so - that Adobe removed Image Ready and appended the bridge, etc.) Anyway, it caused a program conflict with the newest version I was running at the time so I had to remove the older version. In the meantime, one of your forum posters gave me a solution to opening older .gifs in the newest versions of PS. (No problem with this anymore.)

I really haven't used the KPT Collection all that much over the past years, but if I've needed a special effect feature it had it was nice to have. So, if there's no work around to get it to work with CS-5, I'll just simply remove it from my computer. I'm sure there's something else just as good or better for the same purpose out there somewhere. Any suggestions? You're the best I know of for such.

Thanks heaps!!

Re: KPI Collection configuration with CS-5
Mainly, I keep CS4 so I can run 32-bit plug-ins on that without having to quit CS5 first. My favourite plugin of all time was called Nowhouse Propeller, but that doesn't work on Mac OS X so I haven't used it for about ten years now.

There isn't really an alternative to the KPT collection. Plugin design has changed since those days: they're mainly rather utilitarian now. Which filter in particular was it that you wanted to use? There may be a workaround...

Re: KPI Collection configuration with CS-5
Thanks for getting back with me on this, Steve.

I really had no particular KPT Collection filter effect in mind for anything, actually. I had just completed a background for a scenario montage and wanted to search around in the KPT Collection for an effective augmentation ... perhaps. Something a little unique and different that I might further augment with CS-5. That's when I discovered CS-5 couldn't recognize the KPT effects files. In the end, I was basically satisfied with the background and just decided to leave it alone. I detereminrd that even a "touch" more would have made it to "busy" (aka: cluttered). You know what I mean here. Sometimes it's knowing precisely when to quit that makes the big difference in the end. The artistic statement has been made, in other words.

Ok. Just so I'm not confused on this; you mentioned that you keep CS4 to run 32-bit plug-ins on it without having to quit CS5. That's great and it would solve my issue with the KPT Collection, perhaps, becaue KPT ran beautifully on CS4. But do you have both CS4 and CS5 on your Mac together. No PS programs conflicts or CS malfunctions? Just want make sure I'm clear on what you're doing, Steve. If you are running both 4 and 5 on your Mac, then the next question - to myself - might be would this work equally as well on PC. Just thinking out loud. Thanks!
