Steve (or anyone else with an opinion)- I'm working on the "Attic" (100% PS), more specifically the guitar. I'm at the point where I put some perspective to it (#34): directions say "select all the elements of the guitar".........I've got 13 layers.
Would it be a biggg mistake to merge them first? I've saved numerous copies so it wouldn't be a calamity if I screw up, but I'd rather not tempt old Murphy's Law! Any advice? Thanx either way........Joey

Re: guitar
Hi Joey,

Small comment:
Have you tried layers Group CS4/CS5. You can put all those layers into a group/folder and then transform the Group as one (select the folder layer and edit). Its in earlier versions of PS with different name->Layer Sets as I recall(?), but not sure how to compare the operations now.

You can also just select all the layers and edit/transform.
Then:
Keep your History Pallet open so can go backwards/forwards.
Once you close PS the history will be gone, well there are ways to save (I think), but files gets very big.

Do Save though!

Re: guitar
Thanks Trevor. Looking ahead, I see the importance of NOT merging all layers. So, now the problem I'm encountering is: As directed, I selected all the elements/layers, did 'free transform', and when I ctrl/drag to get perspective, ONLY the guitar strings are affected - which is the last layer selected. -?????- I'm certain I've followed everything to the letter - but seems I always miss something vital. HELP?!?!? Please..................Joey

By the way - I have PS 7. Can't afford newer editions, and, alas, I have no favorite rich uncle just waiting to leave me his vast fortune.........

Re: guitar
Joey,

I don't know how you have your layers set up, if you have them in a layer set or just layers. However you can use the free transform.

As you can see in my project, I have all of my layers in a layer set. If I wanted to use the free transform, the key is to link all the layer sets together. All you have to do is to click in the square next to the eyeball. This will put a link in that square. Then use the Ctrl-T to use the free transform. Then you can distort all the layers at the same time.

If you have just layers not in a layer set. just link all the layers together and use free transform.

Re: guitar
Joey,
Glad you have it fixed.

Great explanation from Luis again!

I remembered you were using PS7. Its very powerful, as commented before.
As confirmed by Luis it was Layer Sets in PS7, the name changed to Groups in later CS versions of PS.
Oops forgot to mention need to link all layers if want to transform all layers.

Look forward to your next 100% stage. Bit of work there
