Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom
Can someone tell me what Lightroom can do that CS5 Photoshop can not do. I am trying to decide whether or not to get Lightroom.
Thanks

Re: Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom
Lightroom doesn't have all the brushes, filters, and selection tools of Photoshop. What it offers instead is an excellent environment for processing multiple images.

With Lightroom, you can use a system equivalent to Photoshop's Camera Raw dialog to apply a range of adjustments and enhancements to an image. You can then tell Lightroom to apply the same process to all the other photos from the same shoot.

It's a great help to professional photographers, who may have dozens of images shot at the same time that all need to be corrected in tandem.

Lightroom is very good at what it does but is not meant to compete with CS5, rather to work alongside it.

I use it as a replacement for Bridge and Camera Raw.
For me it's just easier to use.

Totally agree with what's been said. They both have their different uses and, for photographers, Lightroom is superb.

There are two other very similar pieces of software that you might like to look at.

Apple's aperture is very good.

If you dial up the Hasselblad website, you can download their "Phocus" software completely free of charge. You don't need to own a 'Blad to use the software.

I couldn't do without Lightroom, I process all by images in it. doing only final adjustments in Photoshop. Sometimes not using Photoshop at all. The adjustments you do in Lightroom are non-destructive, which is great.
The only thing I use Bridge for these days is as a photo-viewer.
