removing masks from styles and copying to masks
Hello im on page 209 of 100% photoshop Firstly I cant copy a texture into a mask, can anyone help? Secondly it says to shift+click on the mask thumb to disable it from the layer but keeping it on the style (bevel) this doesnt work on mine ...the mask is removed from both layer and style Im using CS5 any help appreciated, my stone wall looks a bit naff at the moment! ![]() |

Re: removing masks from styles and copying to masks
Steve, It turns out this way of disabling the mask was me exploiting a bug that had crept into CS4 - you shouldn't really be supposed to do that. They've corrected it now, so that no longer works. So here's another way of doing it. Complete up to step 6 in the book. Then copy the texture created in steps 3 to 5. Enter QuickMask mode (Q), and Paste the texture (you'll find youcan paste into QuickMask). Now make a new layer from that selection, from the pieces of stone to which you've applied the bevel and emboss. You'll find that with the new layer, the result looks more or less like the one in the book. Sorry for the confusion! Steve |

Thanks for that will give it a go..... I tried erasing the bevel stones with a splatter type brush which produced a reasonable effect but not quite as detailed as the image in the book. |

Hello Steve erasing the stones with the spatter brush produced a reasonable result but they looked a bit cratered like the moon! trying your recommendation produced a result much more like the image in the book. PS Id just like to say how much Ive enjoyed reading your Photoshop books, I have learned so much from them and have had good fun along the way...cant wait till the next one! ![]() |
