preparing files for CMYK printing
I always print my artwork on RGB printers at my studio. I have been requested to create some artwork for a postcard which will be printed in CMYK. My question is the following: do I go through all of the steps of creating the artwork in RGB and then convert to CMYK prior to submission or is it more advisable to create the artwork from the beginning in CMYK? |

I'd recommend always working in RGB, and then converting to CMYK at the end of the process. A couple of things to note: 1. Some colours that look fine in RGB won't work in CMYK. You can check these by switching on CMYK Preview mode (command/ctrl Y) and you'll see the difference, if any. 2. Changing to CMYK will change the way some layer styles and adjustments work. So flatten the image before converting. When you save it, be sure to use Save As so you don't overwrite the original. This now should work fine, but post another query here if you have any problems. |
