How to learn creating objects within photoshop?
The objects in <<Create stunning artwork without using any photographs>> are quite amazing and fantastic. I always wanted to be a game designer, the thing really bothers is I can't draw, one day, I found I could virtually create every game object in photoshop,so I've been looking for books and materials that only teach how to create objects, not those things "photoshop csX for photographers, for retouchers" but I failed until I found this book on amazon, I was so excited when I saw the cover of the book. I knew it's the one I'd been looking for. I have general working knowledge of photoshop, but new to creating object. Could I have some opinions on how to learn these stuffs better? |

Hi Jack, One really good way is to set yourself a project where you create a simple object. From there go on to create a more complicated object. Use a real object to get your inspiration and see how the light and shade makes it three dimensional. Then your next task is to put them all together to form a whole picture. An excellent starting point in all this is Steve's book '100% Photoshop'. Good luck and hope to see your work on the forum soon. For what it's worth, I really can't draw with a pencil and paper. But the Pen tool and other drawing tools in Photoshop give me the ability to get what's in my head out onto the screen. The best way to learn is simply to try stuff out. Duplicate layers, try ideas, and if they don't work then revert to earlier versions. |

Hi, I became a photographer because I was always just a bad designer, something near the same problem as Steve, but with Photoshop I can do things like this! ![]() ![]() |

Re: How to learn creating objects within photoshop?
Using the Pen tool as steve says is a great way to get started, its not an easy tool to get to grips with but once you do it will perform for you! Using the anchor points to adjust and tweak your paths allows you to create the accurate shapes you are after. Using the stroke path option you can create your line drawings. Just keep things on their separate layers - this is very important. Like GKB mentioned start creating simple objects like a drinks can or photo frame - straight forward shapes, but these shapes are still hit by light and reflect it in different ways. They both have a certain texture or shine that you need to create for it to look real. Good luck _________________ www.fablephotos.co.uk |

I was going to buy 100% Photoshop last week but was worried about my drawing skills. I really can't draw with pen and paper either, that's what put me off. Now it looks like Steve will be getting some royalties, when i jump on over to Amazon. |
