Re: Lasso tool problem
This is a strange one. I've never come across the Lasso tool doing this before - and it's all the more unusual because it's just that tool, not any other selection tool. It sounds to me as if this is a PC rather than a Photoshop problem. Do you have any special assistive software installed that might be interfering with Photoshop? Does the screen go black only when you press a certain key combination, or does it happen at random? |

Re: Lasso tool problem
In addition, for what it is worth..... I seem to recall the lasso tool doing the same thing on my other PC some times. It was a few years ago now and using CS(1) I think. I seem to recall it happened when making detailed selections and I think while zoomed-in, but don't recall zoom was the issue apart from trying to make a very detailed selection at the same time. I think I got around the problem in specific documents by restarting PS starting a fresh and maybe copying parts to the new document, but not a satisfactory solution at all. Moving on, I've not had problem since. I put it down to problem in CS, something strange in document or my very limited RAM at the time. It did not happen again after moved to CS2 and newer PC with more RAM. Also I moved to learning and using the Pen tool in favour of the Lasso tool in most cases for selections and other things, but just a personal choice. Seems others love or hate it, I think it is very powerful tool. I just tried to emulate the problem again on my latest PC, 6GB RAM and CS5, with many lasso points, but could not get it to recur. I also tried on my more stressed out laptop, but also did not recur. Doubt this the is the problem, but for good maintenance its worth while installing latest graphics card driver if you do not have already. You can check and download latest version from Nivada's website. If don't have latest driver, for example, some of the latest graphic features in PS will not work properly. Sorry this is not much help. If I think of anything else or can try to emulate again later, will let you know. Hope we can help get you a solution. |

Re: Lasso tool problem
Hi Steve no,made no differance, but it seams to be on the background layer and ctr_j layer that are blank.but i made thewall pattern by creating the brick and then went through the steps to create the wall and tried without any problems to use the lasso tool, strange that it worked with a lot of layers, and masks. |
