Digital Camouflage
I would like to take a landscape photo and convert it into digital camouflage (like this - http://www.gulfcoastcamo.com/backgrounds/USMC%20Digital.jpg) I tried to use the the mosaic filter, but that doesn't quite work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Re: Digital Camouflage
Interesting. I think a few techniques might be needed here - the hardest part might be to reduce the image to just four basic colours. You could use the Posterize adjustment, of course, but this may make it hard to get exactly the colours you want - although of course you could then recolour specific shades afterwards. Can you post the landscape you want to work on, so we can give it a try? |

Steve, thanks for the reply. I kept the landscape photo somewhat large 1200px in width and placed it here: http://www.cmiweb.org/VNHS/temp/landscape.jpg |

Re: Digital Camouflage
John, This might be something towards what your after. First, I converted the layer to a Smart Object. Then I applied the Mosaic filter: ![]() Then I applied the Median filter to soften the shape of the squares: ![]() Next, I used Posterize as an Adjustment Layer to reduce the image to 5 colours (4 just wasn't enough to bring out the detail in this picture): ![]() Finally, I used a Selective Color Adjustment Layer to tweak the image: ![]() By converting it to a Smart Object first and using Adjustment Layers, I was able to fiddle with the settings once all the elements were in place. |
