New software
Steve, or anyone in the forum. I am considering starting to use after effects in with some of my illustrations. I am wondering if anyone has any experience working with it and if it something I should invest time and money in. Thanks, 2tonezack |

Re: New software
After Effects is an excellent program. Essentially, it's Photoshop with an added dimension - time. AE allows you to take Photoshop documents and then animate each layer in a huge variety of ways. As well as being able to rotate, scale and distort layers over time, there's also a huge range of filters that can be applied to them. It does, however, take some time to learn how to use AE. It's a somewhat impenetrable program, and you really need to read through the manual (or, better, get a book about it) to figure out how to begin. It's well worth it, though, as it's capable of producing amazing work. |

Re: New software
I have dabbled a bit with AE. It is harder to get into that PS but the rewards are amazing! I would recommend a couple of web tutorial teachers to help you: one is Eran Stern and the other Andrew Kramer. Both are proficient in its use and a google search will turn up various videos by them (some at Creative Cow.net some at Videocopilot.net and at other places too). I would also recommend books by Chris and Trish Meyer (After Effects Apprentice and Creating Motion Graphics After Effects) and also two by Chad Perkins (How to cheat in After Effects and The After Effects Illusionist) Cheers Vern ![]() |

Great! Thanks Steve and Vern. I have decided that I will purchase AE, I think it will be a great tool for me, once I learn it, and become proficient in it. |
