Lost layers
The layers of this weeks PSD file have disappeared, leaving one layer denoted as background. Frames I still have, but no animation. Can lost layers be restored?

Re: Lost layers
Hello James,
Have you got Time Machine set up? If you have go back in time and find a version with (hopefully) all the layers. My Time Machine seems to back up every half hour or so.

Re: Lost layers
Hello Deborah, what a gem you are. Time Machine turned up trumps, I haven't used it before (still learning) I'm not likely to forget. Just a couple of layers adrift, I am working on those. Dear Lady, you have my sincere thanks.

Re: Lost layers
Please explain - what is this "Time Machine"?

Joey

p/s I've never got high marks for being computer savvy, just so you know.

Re: Lost layers
Hi Joey,
Time Machine is an application on Apple computers, which if you connect an external hard drive to the computer, it will do automatic back-ups every 15 mins/30 mins. It means you can go back a day, or week or whatever and bring an old file 'into the present' and carry on working with it.
And this is from one of the least computer savvy person, sometimes I can't believe how dumb I am - but then at least I learn from it!

Thanks Deborah, for the explaination. I don't have an Apple; too bad, 'cause I've been known to NOT "save" documents - and we all know how frustrating that can be!

Yes, we do live and learn from our boo-boos, thankfully!

Again, thanks for taking the time to explain......Joey

Re: Lost layers
Time Machine really is a life saver. I used it recently to recover a file I'd deleted last October - brilliant!

I'm pretty sure Windows has something similar. I don't use it, because I manually back up my files with third party software when I make changes, but I'm almost positive I saw a way to set it up when I first got my laptop and was setting all the defaults and such.

Hmmmm....I wonder what that might be? I'll check with my personal tech guy, see if he has any idea. (He's not brilliant with PS, but everything else computer, he is!) Thanks for the lead, Connie.
