Masks
Just watc hed a tutorial (Russell Brown!!!) on masks in CS5. Clicking on Windows Menu provides Masks as an option. When I tried that in CS6, there is no masks in the Windows menu. Am I missing something simple here?

Re: Masks
The Masks panel has moved in CS6 - it now appears in the Properties panel (which you'll also find under the Window menu).

It's a bit of a tidying-up process: the Properties panel holds other information as well, such as the 3D panel, where appropriate.

Anyway i am having trouble with the book as the book does not seem to correspond with the quick time movies, Why is this as it makes it difficult to follow because if your not sure on how to do something then you have nothing to refer back to..
I really need help on the whole mask concept I'm on page 82 Textures with layers but there is now quick time movies also in some of your movies they repeat them self over and over..

Re: Masks
Anita,

I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here. How does the book not correspond with the movies?

You're right, there is no movie for the Texture with Layer Modes tutorial. I didn't do movies for every single page in the book, or there would have been (a) too many movies to fit on the DVD, and (b) no need for the book! But can you explain the problem you're having with this particular tutorial, and I'll try to help you out.

Which edition of the book are you working from? There was a problem with one edition where movies that had been edited would play unedited using some applications - I suggest you use Apple's QuickTime player, and the edits should then not repeat themselves.

Re: Masks
Im new to Photoshop and I just bought the book as it was recommended to me.
I am having a problem I dont understand in quick mask, after I paint the image I want and copy and paste it to my new image it is always much lighter and even transparent where I can see through to the original image. I am using CS6.
Could you help me with this please.

Re: Masks
Robert,

There are two possibilities that are most likely. You may be painting in a colour other than black - if you paint in grey, you'll end up with a transparent selection, because the darker you paint in QuickMask, the more opaque the selection will be.

Alternatively, you may have the Brush tool set to less than 100% pressure. This has the same effect as painting in grey, and will produce the same results.

If it's neither of these things, then try posting a screen shot showing your whole screen, with the panels open, and we might find a different solution.

Either way - do keep asking questions! It's what the forum's here for.

Hi Steve,

Many Thanks for the help, somehow it seems when I pressed Q and selected quick mask it lightened or changed the colour of my black. By pressing D this has helped and I have no problems now.
Thanks again
Bob
