Hello again I am attempting to use the Lasso tool for the fence. Point 6 is ok. I clicked the vertical points. Before clicking I pressed the alt key. The problem concerns adding the horizontal lines in point 7. The lasso toll is still chosen. I press the shift key and I see a + (addition). Then I press a corner of one of the horizontal posts. Afterwards I press ALT and I see a X (multiplication). When I press on the other corner, all the Lasso markings disappear! Any help? Thanks |

It's all down to the fact that there just aren't enough damn modifier keys, so in Photoshop several of them have to double up. The way they work all depends on the order in which you press them. If you hold the alt key before you start to draw a selection, it will subtract from the existing selection (unless you already have the Shift key down, in which case it will intersect the new selection with the old one - hence the x symbol). Hold the shift key before starting the new selection, start to drag, then hold alt as well after starting to drag. It will now draw straight lines as expected. Don't worry, you're not the first person to be caught out by this (and I very much doubt you'll be the last). |

OK I managed to do it. But the sequence of the pressing is extremely tricky!!!! Thanks for your help! I am enjoying the book! |

It is tricky, yes, but after a while you just get used to it. Glad you're enjoying the book. Do keep coming back if you get stuck (or even if you don't). |
