cut-out
Good morning I would like to produce a cut-out in photoshop of the truck and the engine. Which tools should I use? The Quick Mask, the Quick Selection Tool, or the Lasso or the Magic Wand? I am confused! Please see the attached photos. Kind Regards ![]() |

Re: cut-out
I would only use the Pen tool here. It will work really well with these Bézier friendly edges. Some people find it a pain, I understand, and for other images, eg. hair, glass I'd use a combination, including channels with masks. With your engine, down side either way, you will have to spend quite some time to define the Path with all the details. If you save the Path, you can always adjust afterwards, but I just try to get right first time, otherwise really long process! After you have used Pen and captured the Path(s), make selection, mask, and use refine edges. If don't have later version of PS, you can still refine the mask or selection e.g. +/-, blur. Trust others will have ideas of course and quicker when time limited. I'm thinking of some I like for the engine ... CS5 based .. : : |

I agree with Trevor I would use the pen tool for this kind of object. There is a fair learning curve to get the hang of using the pen tool but once you do it is just great and the paths are infinitely tweak able once created. _________________ "Check out the big brain on Brett!" |

Yes Claude, you can save pen created paths. The way I do it is straight after created the path and completing it, go to paths tab and double click on the name/title of the new work path, like you would do for a layer, and rename it to whatever you like e.g. Engine Outline. Its saved then and any new work path will not kill it, but you can carry on working on it, add to and edit later all the pen Biezier points on the path as you wish. Agree with Vern, worthwhile climbing the learning curve, but understand it is frustrating at times. Trevor P PS, btw, before rtn from paths pallet deactivate it (e.g. by click outside) otherwise you will still see the path line on your layers, which is a bit confusing, well for me. That said if still active, carry on working/adding to it! |
