Free Distort
In How to Cheat (Third Edition) Editable Text on 3D surfaces (p304/5) am at a loss after warping text how to find Free Distort and how to shear. If I try to use the Shear filter, I get the demand to rasterise, whereas Steve's commentary says shearing the text box is allowed on live text. Any clues please? Am using CS6.

Re: Free Distort
The Shear filter is a very old one - you'll hardly ever use it these days. The third edition of the book was written long before CS6!

To shear, go into Free Transform and choose Image Warp from the button on the Options Bar. Then, in the Presets, choose Arch. This should give you what you want.

You might also consider a later edition of the book...

Ah - I understand! I took the tutorial out of the later editions because it seemed to use such outdated technology. Seriously, I recommend you first turn the text into a Smart Object, and then use Image Warp!
