Chapter 9 Interlude - Photographing Glass
Hello,

Could any one help me with more specific/detailed steps for Chapter 9 Interlude of Steve's book How to Cheat in Photoshop CS6?

In particular Step 1 - 'adjust the tones in the image so that the white becomes a mid gray'. Can anyone tell me what the best tool is to do this step?

Also Step 3 says to 'invert the glass so that the black becomes white and vice versa.'Does anyone know how to invert colours please?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Sorry I found the page. I'm sure someone else will go into more detail if you need it but personally I would first of all Desaturate the image of your glass against the white background, this makes it black and white basically getting rid of any unwanted color.

You can change the tones from white to gray by adjusting the levels (Image>adjustments>levels). Or by moving the Brightness and Contrast levels up and down (Image>adjustments>brightness/contrast).

To INVERT something, simply go to Image>adjustments>Invert.
Or press Ctrl+I.

And to change to Hard Light. Look at the top of your layers panel, and where there is a box that says 'normal' , click on it and change to Hard Light.

Photoshop can be a lot of trial and error, just fiddle with different settings until you get the results you like.

Hello OchreOrange

Though I consider myself a bit of a nubie at this , but I'll try my best .

As far as the 'adjust the tones in the image so that the white becomes a mid gray' , is concerned ... I was a bit confused at the beginning myself (though it doesn't take much to confuse me anywayz) ... but I tried the method described word for word ... glass , white BG , click on Nikon .... to "grey" it , Levels and Curves worked for me , even a bit of Disat . Then again , that's just me .

Artwel described the 'inverting' right on ... To INVERT something, simply go to Image>adjustments>Invert.
Or press Ctrl+I.

I hope I was of help .... and if I was , you owe me one , for I need all the help I can get

vahn
