Can anyone help?
I'm trying to publish an ebook to Smashwords, and it's very picture-heavy. Smashwords has a maximum file size of 5Mb, so I opened all the pictures in Photoshop CC, lowered their physical size, took them down to 72dpi and saved for web. The file browser and Bridge showed that each image was significantly smaller, However, when I replaced all the images in the book (a Word document, which Smashwords requires), the file size of the book doubled. So I opened the images again in PS and it showed huge file sizes again. Where am I going wrong? I saved the images for web as a different filename in another folder, and kept the originals, but I made sure I put the optimised images in the book. Help! |

Hi Kate, I don't know if the answer to your problem lies in what Word is trying to do automatically to the photos. See this link http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/reduce-the-file-size-of-a-picture-HA010355854.aspx From the information in the guidance it would appear that the compression settings can be made in Word preferences and then whatever photo size resolution you place in the document it is reduced to the appropriate size. Thanks Vern. I'm using Word 2000 and don't seem to have the compress option, but I'll take another look. |
