The Problem of fur
I wanted to do so much more with last week's challenge (In The Wild) but I didn't know how to create fur on the monkey so I had to put him in the background. If I had only gotten through two more exercises in the book! Below is an image of the monkey. On the left is a simple cutout. The center is my first attempt after having only completed through "The Problem of Hair Loss" in Chapter 8 of the 6th edition. The right is after completing the next two lessons. I first made myself a custom "fur" brush and then used the techniques in the "Beards and Stubble" lesson I changed the blur center so that it was at the top right corner. It's a work in progress but I think it looks a lot more like the stature grew fur than my first attempt. ![]() |

Re: The Problem of fur
Good morning Sara. That looks like a good attempt. The fur on the arms, for example, would be lying in a different direction and be shorter than, say, the mane. Try putting the limbs on different layers and varying the direction and intensity of the motion blur. Gordon _________________ ![]() |

I think Gordon's got it right. But your technique, Sara, is excellent: that's a really good way of doing it. |

Re: The Problem of fur
Hi Gordon, I am so sorry to be so late in responding to you. My only excuse is that one thing led to another and then next thing I know it's almost two months later. Thank you for your suggestion. It turns out you don't have to put the limbs on different layers. You can just select them and the apply the noise and motion blur (adjusting it so that it will look shorter) I did have to transform the Elliptical Marquee using the mask technique in HotChiPs Chapter 1. Anyway, here is the 2.0 version. I still have to work on the back legs a little. I am using my cat as a fur reference, but He has long hair and I don't know that monkeys have such pronounced pantaloons. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |
