6th ed., Ch. 9 - Submerging in Water Step 6 -Can't get the shadow
Finally, I have some time to get back to the lessons. I got almost all of the "Submerging in water" lesson on pp. 244-245 of the 6th edition, but I got stuck on step 6. My first try I created the Curves Adjustment layer and then tried loading the distorted car by ctrl-clicking (Yes, much to my shame, I own a PC) on the RGB thumbnail of the distorted car layer. That selected the distorted car, but then when I clicked on the Curves Adjustment layer mask, it wouldn't delete from the mask. I then decided that maybe what was meant in the directions was that the step would require a Curves Adjustment layer eventually, but the first step was to ctrl-click on the thumbnail of the distorted car layer and then create the Curves Adjustment layer. I did that and got a nice white outline of the distorted car in the thumbnail of the Curves Adjustment mask. However, try as I might, I could not get it to delete. I know the book was purposely written with steps left out so we would have to use what we learned previously, but I obviously missed picking up something. Please, someone post the missing steps. I feel like an idiot for not figuring this out. I'm moving on to "Snow and icicles" in the mean time. -Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |

By "delete from the mask" I mean fill that area of the mask with black to hide that part of the layer. Apologies, this really isn't a clear instruction! Does that help? |

Very good. But don't make the water level too much of a straight line - it needs to rise away from the viewer on both side of the car, following the angle of our view of the water. |
