Terrific work Dennis. I love the way the dragon is so subtly incorporated into the image that one only really becomes aware of him when you see the head.

One tiny disappointment is when I zoom in to the central area, where the main interest is, the image definition lacks the wonderful detail of your earlier posts. I hope this is just a reflection of the post resolution here and not the original image because there is so much there I really want to see but can't.

Thank you so much Lloyd and David.

Yes, you're right David. I'm down to 8gigs of ram so I had to sacrifice detail in order to render the image. It crashed my system numerous times. Eventually, I reduced as much resolution as I could and rendered the scene in 3 parts and Photoshopped them together. It took me about 2 weeks to piece and work out how I was going to deliver it with such limited power. The biggest challenge was creating a silhouette and not having it appear flat, so I made numerous changes to the lighting. I also re-mapped the model of the dragon, which took ages. The lack of ram caused its own issues as I couldn't run more than 1 graphic program at a time, as the pc would start lagging. Very frustrating. It nearly caused me to give up pc graphics all together, as to renew my pc with the graphic cards and ram that I need, is extremely expensive.

Dennis what I know technically is very limited, so this may be nonsense. Could you not buy a cheap second hand PC (possibly well out of date), without high end graphics card or even a half way decent monitor, install tons of mid range inexpensive RAM and simply use it as a network render machine? It won't be marvellous but it could be a much less expensive way forward.

Re: Daz Studio - worth it or not
My pc, with sufficient ram, is still a beast. It's to find the ram. PC components become obsolete so quickly, its unbearable, otherwise I could upgrade my system. It's been going for years. I've been fortunate.

Unfortunately, this 3D bug has bitten deep and the software is becoming so resource hungry. It doesn't help that the bigger the maps, the more detail. It's not uncommon to find models with 4k maps now days.

This upgrade, however, I believe will be my last, so lets hope it lasts.

My latest challenge is the art of light. Photoshop helped me in creating an interesting halo and maps for the staff to get the symbols and glowing font.

Jesus pleading to God at The Mount of Olives would make a nice print, if anyone wants it. There's a big copy on the Renderhub site should anyone wish to download it. I never placed a watermark on it in case someone wishes to make a print.
