Drawing water in a glass
Been trying to draw water in a Glass without a distorted background.... i..e Just showing water or for that mater any liquid in a glass which looks real. I'm not having much luck, do you have a quick and easy way of doing this like your method for drawing glass. Thanks Andrew |

Do you mean you want a glass of water with no background to it? That's going to be pretty tricky. It's the distorted view that makes a glass look full of water. But here's a possibility: draw (or photograph) an empty glass, then select the area where the water should be and apply a Spherize to it, horizontal only. It might change the surface appearance enough to give the impression of water in it. |

A glass half full of water when viewed looks like a glass half full of water even when there is no background as such (white). The opaqness (hope that's a word) changes as light passes though the water. I find this type of effect very intresting and diffcult to 'paint' in photoshop. My camera does a good job of capturing it if one excuses the odd reflection. Drawing the effect eludes me at this time. - Andrew

I see what you mean. I think it's the 'half full' that makes it work: the difference in shading above and below the water line. Are you drawing the whole glass from scratch? It sounds like you are. In which case, wouldn't a horizontal spherize and a slight lowering of brightness below the water line do the trick? Oh, and the word is 'opacity', of course! Steve |
