Need some help
I have been trying to use this image to make stacks and stacks of magazines but I can't seem to get the right perspective and skew so when I stack one on top of the other to make a higher stack it doesn't look right. Can someone help me out, maybe a few pointers some examples. anything and everything will be much appreciated ![]() |

Re: Need some help
Two ways to approach this are: Split the image, so you have a layer with the spines and a layer with the pages. That way, you can use Free Transform to match the perspective individually. The second method would be to create the magazines yourself (using the tequniques in Steve's book), which would give you total control of size and position. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Exactly, then you can scan or photograph a real cover for the top of the stack - depending on the distance these will be viewed at, you could get away with making the spines yourself. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Need some help
It really depends on the angle and size. If that's the full sized image, distortion will cause it to become blurred. It's always best to work on big images and scale them down, as you have more detail to work with initially. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Need some help
This is a very quick demonstration using the seperation method. I created a layer by selecting the spines, then another with the pages. The two layers were then positioned and distorted with Free Transform. The problem with this method is that the bottom of the original stack is flat and the top is curved. ![]() _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: Need some help
![]() Here's my revised version based upon the method David mentioned plus some 3D transform so that you can see the top magazine cover by making the top magazine flat and with your preferred top image then it all comes into place (I hope) _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Need some help
Wow, what an interesting thread this has turned out to be. Some great techniques there - it's fascinating to come to this in the new year and see the progression through the different methods. Eaglepi, part of the problem is distorting the cover enough to sit at the top of the stack. It's a very severe distortion, and that will tend to pixellate the image. A good technique would be to distort the cover using Free Transform but then, before clicking in the Free Transform box or hitting the Enter key, holding SHIFT and grabbing one of the handles to stretch the cover to about double or triple its intended size. If you then go ahead and reduce this distorted version to the right size, you should find you get much crisper results. |
