Why Landscape when there's Photoshop? - It's too hot anyway
This is a commissioned project that's almost complete...almost.

I've been working on it for a bit and was hoping a couple fresh eyes could see if this is at least half-way convincing...

Cc's very much appreciated.

I have yet to add the flowers underneath the Birdbath per the client's request. So I'm sure that will fix the problems with the grass-island...

They also want me to add shudders on the mobile homes..

Thanks in advance

Wow! That'S what I clall grass! Great blend of the greens!

One thing bugged me when I first looked at it and I could not figure it out. But I found it. The bird bath has its shadow the wrong direction. Look at the homes; the sun is hitting from your right shoulder when looking at the picture (sun on 2 faces on the leftmost mow, and sun and shade on the rightmost one). Also I would blend the foot of the bath in the grass by having pieces of grass go over the base. My 2¢, hope it helps!

Ahhaa! Great catch and thanks, Pierre. I knew something wasn't quite right.

I'm also going to take that shadow out of the patch of grass on the bottom left. Probably just cloning from a different, unused portion of that same original picture...unless, there is a way to remove that shadow as is? Curves has always been a bear for me, though... Also, do you think the birdbath is a smidge too tall?

The grass came from the golf-course, so add a Tee and a few divits and it'll be golden.

There seems to be something visually unsettling with the left building, esp the end nearest the camera.

I can't make up my mind if it's a lack of perspective (it seems quite square - on to the camera?) a colour issue, or a symetry problem (possibly caused by the perspective).

Then again, perhaps I need new glasses and a bigger monitor?

Like BB writes, there's something wrong with the buildings. In my eyes it's #2 and #3 from the right that seems to be crooked. If you look at the corners, they seems to be falling out of the picture (to the right). I think you should straighten these two buildings to make the perspective convincing.
Another thing that bothers me is the big shadow on the left patch of grass that's not related to anything in the picture. One would guess it comes from a big tree somewhere behind the photograher, but you don't know. That shadow is going in yet another direction from the ones from the birdbath and the buildings. I think you need to correct direction of the shadow or delete it, whichever is best, but in my opinion the picture benefits from a shadow like that (adds depth), so I would correct the direction.

Hi Chris,

I agree with BB and Whaler. I opened the image up in photoshop to have a look and I think that the camera is very slightly tilted so that the buildings look as if they are slipping downhill to the right.
If you use the image of the building that is end on to the camera and use that to establish the horizontal with the measure tool you will find that the angle is just less than 1 degree off horizontal but it does make a difference to how you 'see' the image. Roughly 0.8 of a degree anti clockwise is all you need.

Hope this helps a bit.

Alrighty, here's the revisions. Shadow on grass removed. Shudders, flowers, ect added. And the image rotated 0.8 degrees; which actually helped on the full size image.

Still not sure if this is the completed final?
Any ideas to make it really 'pop' would be appreciated!

Thanks so much guys

Looking at it now, I think the girl needs to be a tad bigger and the birdbath a bit shorter. Also the shutters on the far right need to be aligned..

I made some quick changes to your image and these are my suggestions:

I still believe you have correct the house corners, I've indicated which lines are disturbing to me by putting red 'sticks' in the picture. You can see how they diverge towards the top of the picture.

Furthermore, you also have to think about how the girl is lit. In your picture she is lit right from where the photographer is standing. In my picture I've added a stronger picture of her on the ground and also some shadows on the girl to make it look like she's lit from above.

The third change I've made is to add som shadow on the birdbath post.

Finally I've added a a big shadow in the foreground from an unknown tree to give some depth to the picture.

Hi tank,

just a suggestion how to make it pop the quick and easy way before doing more to it.
Go to channels and command (control) click the RGB channel. You'll see a selection appearing which is your average image lumination ( if I got that term right). Go back to layers and copy that selection to a new layer. Put that layer on overlay...and hop..it "pops" .
Here's my result doing that once.

Here is my impression based on the foreground shadows in the original photo, I also changed the size of the bird bath.

Thanks everyone for the help! I provided two concepts, since I couldn't decide myself. One with the shadows and the other without. The builder chose the one without because in reality there will be no large trees behind the camera. They were certainly satisfied with the final result and I've since landed an aerial photography gig and additional design jobs from them. Thanks all for your valuable help!

Best Regards,
