rain drops
I'm trying to create a convincing rain look. It's been raining for the last couple of days and I have been observing how the rain reacts after hitting the puddles. Two things that came to mind. One was the random size and scattering of the rings and the other was the distortion of the puddles surface. This is the before and after. I have used the techniques from the book and wanted to add the element of the rain hitting the water with the rings. Any thoughts would be helpful. (it may be hard to see the details) BTW, does anyone have any suggestions for how to make the rain not look so heavy? ![]() |

Hello Steve, I really like the effect you have got on the water, how did you do that? I've tried making the rain not so heavy, not to sure about it, but will explain it if you want me to ![]() |

Re: rain drops
Thanks Deborah, That looks great. How did you do that? The ring effect is just a brush I created and adjusted the roundness, shape dynamics and scatter in the brushes palette. I also used a custom style setting using emboss and a few other settings with no fill and lowered the opacity. |

Re: rain drops
Thanks for that Steve, I will have a play at that. The 'rain' was made with white dots - the quickest way is a black layer, add gaussian noise, then blur, but then go to threshold and move the slider to the right, bright white spots appear. I then deleted the black added a slight gaussian blur and then a small motion blur, then copied it and added a larger motion blur then messed around with opacity and set it to linear dodge. The reason I deleted the black rather than setting to screen as Steve suggested was that the rain took on a dark tinge if I wanted to set it as linear dodge for example. Hope that was clear |

Thank Deborah, I'll give that a try. If you would like, email me and I will send you the brushes and the styles I made and you can play around with them. |
